When deciding on what article to write about today, my thoughts were to keep it related to nature, while adding back to the mushroom element. Reishi mushrooms are of the edible variety, and have been around for centuries, in fact, at most, 2000 years. Turning these deciduous tree growing spores into a dried powder, I officially decided to write my reishi mushroom tea review and give you the benefits and side effects of drinking this delicious beverage with a spoon full of honey.
Reishi Mushroom Tea Review
Product Name: Reishi Mushroom Tea – T4D
Product Location: Creston, British Columbia, Canada
Pricing: $20.00
Personal Rating:9/10
How Reishi Mushroom Tea Works
To start off, I want to give you the run-down about reishi mushrooms in general.
Being traditionally used in the Eastern culture as a natural medicine, these mushrooms are rather rare. Usually found on the base of deciduous trees, the mushrooms themselves contain dietary fibers, various minerals, vitamins, and amino acids.
Nutritionally, the health benefits of these staple Chinese mushrooms were for:
- Better Immunity
- Gut Health
- Anti-Cancer
- Lower Blood Pressure
However, in the western medicine world, a lot of research has not proven the entire benefits of this super-food, as studies haven’t been completed on the human race. That said, it’s been noted to talk to your doctor if you are taking any medications, before you proceed anywhere near reishi mushrooms, or mushroom tea.
As far as how reishi mushroom tea works, this specially brewed tea is steeped in boiling water for 10-15 minutes from powdered mushrooms. Once at your time frame, remove the container that the mushroom powder was in, add a tablespoon of honey (optional), stir and enjoy.
The taste of this tea without honey has a “woody” flavor as it’s a dense substance to begin with, while adding that touch of pure raw honey, gives the flavor a boost of deliciousness that is beyond imaginable, making it that much harder to describe.

Health Benefits of Reishi Mushroom Tea
As mentioned earlier about the benefits of the mushrooms themselves, it is said to believe that this specialty brewed tea bears the scientific name Ganoderma lucidum. This provides high levels of “beta glucans“, also, water-soluble polysaccharides (most abundant carbohydrate found in food), peptides (small chain of amino acid), and triterpenoids (naturally occurring organic compound).
In translation, it is a beneficial substance that contains antioxidant and health stimulating properties. To break it down one step further, these are the beneficial factors:
- Immune System – Prevents infections in the gut.
- Anti-Cancer – Prevents cancer, but not according to the Western medical standards as it needs more studies for proof.
- Cardiovascular Health – Regulates blood pressure.
- Weight Loss – Improves metabolism and nutrient uptake.
- Allergies – Prevents allergic reactions.
- Detoxification – From blood and the liver.
According to WebMD, reishi mushrooms in general also “treat conditions such as asthma, dizziness, insomnia and irregular heartbeat“, so it’s safe to say the carry-over by-product of tea also aids in these areas.
And the best part about it is, all it takes is 1tsp full!
Side Effects of Reishi Mushroom Tea
Now, as there hasn’t been much research done to determine the true number of benefits, the same applies to the side effects, although through my own findings, these are what they are according to Organicfacts.net:
- Dryness of mouth, throat and sinuses
- Inflamation
- Upset Stomach
- Blood in Stool
- Toxic to Liver
Final Thoughts / Personal Usage
What I’ve discovered after drinking 1 cup of Reishi tea 3 to 4 days a week is that there have been no side effects to this date, and we’ve been drinking it steadily for the last 2 months.
As it’s a natural found medicine, and not being on and medications, I have had no issues, but that doesn’t mean it can be different for someone else.
That said, here are some of our personal discoveries of this tea, based on the above information:
- Anti-Cancer – as specified.
- Immune Boost – as specified.
- Helps with sleep – Somewhat.
- Blood in Stool – Negative.
- Weight Loss – Not noticeable yet.
- Blood Pressure – Normal.
- Gut Health – Noticeable.
- Wood Taste – Not if you add that honey!
At the end of the day, I recommend drinking reishi tea. It’s a huge switch from coffee and the flavor is naturally beneficial. I personally give it a 9/10 rating, and when mixed with the likes of honeysuckle and lavender, and even dandelion root, it tastes that much better!

Earth is Heart!
I have not been sleeping well lately and been looking for simple remedy to help me sleep better. Although, in your honest review, Reishi mushroom tea may/may not (somewhat) helps with sleep, it might be worth trying this tea. Since it’s noticeably good for gut health, it’ll be good for general health. A healthy gut means healthy body which I hope leads to a good night sleep. Thanks for coming up with this review.
Thank you for your comment. Actually, there’s a natural tea that will help with sleep a lot better than reishi mushroom, and that is lavender. It’s got a floral taste and soothes your mind with each sip. I plan to write an article about it in the near future. Stay tuned!
